Most people know sleep is important, but few realize just how deeply it affects overall health. Getting seven to nine hours of quality sleep each night is essential for both the body and mind.

When you sleep, your body repairs cells, muscles, and tissues. Your brain processes memories and clears out waste that builds up during the day. Without enough rest, you may notice poor concentration, irritability, and a weakened immune system.

Poor sleep also raises the risk of serious conditions such as heart disease, obesity, and type 2 diabetes. Over time, consistently missing sleep can shorten life expectancy.

Creating a healthy sleep routine makes a big difference. Try going to bed at the same time each night, keeping your room cool and dark, and limiting screens before bedtime. Small habits, like a calming tea or light stretching, can also signal your body it’s time to wind down.

Think of sleep as your body’s natural reset button. Skimping on it may save a few hours today, but it can cost your health in the long run.
